Real Estate Update Georgetown Divide Ca

Despite negative press, home sales within the Georgetown Divide remain constant.  131 homes have sold in the first 7 months of 2011, nearly 19 per month.  With inventory also at 131 homes, in theory it would take another 7 months to sell through our inventory.  The rural communities of Georgetown, Garden Valley, Greenwood, Cool and Pilot Hill offer a wide range of homes, both in characteristics and price.  Thus far, prices for homes sold have ranged from $52,500 to $615,000, with an average selling price of $200,606 and an average days on the market at 97 days.  Another 28 homes are in pending sale.

Folsom Lake Peninsula Campground forced to close for summer.

As of July 18th, the Peninsula Campground at Folsom Lake (off Rattlesnake Bar in Pilot Hill) was forced to close due to a lack of staffing and equipment failure.  Normally, the 100 site campground is open between April 1st and September 30th.  Folsom Lake has 75 miles of shoreline and 100 miles of trails.  This is a sad reflection of the state of our California Park system.  It reminds us that we need to both make sure destinations are open in advance of outings, and support organized efforts to keep our Park gates open.

Cool Ca Residents David Schurr and Allyson Thomas Conwell finish WS100

Congratulations to David Schurr and Allyson Thomas Conwell, both from Cool, for finishing this year’s Western States 100 Mile Run on June 25th – 26th!  310 Runners out of 375 starters completed this year’s race.  Runners experienced more moderate temperatures than past years, but were challenged by residual snow conditions along high country trails.  If you have ever wanted to experience what these runners endure in the first few miles of the Race, participate in the 31st Annual Squaw Valley Run on August 6th.

World Masters Track and Field Participants come to Sacramento

For the first time in 16 years, the World Masters Track Championships is being hosted by the U.S.  Sacramento, the host City, will be welcoming over 4800 athletes age 35 – 101.  The event offers free admission to spectators, July 6th – 17th.  The Hornet Stadium at the Sacramento State Campus is the designated site for 80% of the events.  93 Countries will be represented; nearly ½ the athletes U.S. citizens.  For locations, a schedule of events and more, refer to www.wma2011.

Coolest Ride & Tie 2011 scheduled for the Fall

Before this year’s Tevis, in October, The Coolest Ride & Tie will feature both runners and horseback riders in a single event.  Organizers will be officially announcing the details in weeks to come, but it’s not too early to begin training, to select “teammates” and fine tune skills.  To learn more about Ride & Tie and print an event flyer, check out www.rideandtie.org.

Snow conditions in the Sierras challenges Runners and Horseback Riders

After hearing that the Tevis Cup 100 Miles in One Day Ride was postponed until October 8th – 9th due to hazardous trail conditions and a desire by organizers to also assure participants of a more enjoyable experience, Jim and I decided to travel to the high country to see the Trail ourselves.  The attached photo of Squaw Valley, taken June 19th, gives credence to this historical postponement.  As for the Western States 100 Mile Run, the June 25th – 26th date remained unchanged.  Organizers of this event alerted participants that they would be encountering snow packed trail conditions over the first 30 miles of the trail.  An already challenging event, this year became even more challenging.    The vacancy on July 16th – 17th created by the postponement of the Tevis, provided an opening for both the Tevis Education Ride and the El Dorado Equestrian Trails Foundation Dru Barner Fun Ride.  Existing Tevis entries and Tevis Education Ride entries must both complete new applications to participate.  In 2011, Nature has prevailed.
